You're finally going to be a senior and one special part of your senior year is that you get to have your senior photos taken. Most schools require that you get the good old fashioned studio session that they're contracted with for your yearbook photo but in addition to that you can book your photos with a senior photographer that really shows the true you!
So you jump online and start researching Senior Photographers in Los Angeles and you are completely overwhelmed! Let's be real, there's going to pages and pages of senior photographers to look through. Let me give you some guidance in choosing the one that may be the correct fit for you.
1. Look for a photographer that specializes in what you want. Many photographers photograph everything from babies to weddings and they may be good at what they do but finding a photographer that specializes in Senior Photography will mean that they've been completely focused on becoming the best they can be for what are they're shooting. So, when doing your google search, type in the area you're in and what specifically you're looking for. For example, if I were doing it I would type in High School Senior Photographers in Pasadena California.
2. Look through their portfolio. Photographers have different social media platforms where they display their work. Check them all out and see if you like what you see. If you notice that their work is inconsistent maybe they haven't found their groove yet, which is totally cool, but just be sure you know what you'll be getting. If you like what you see and the work is similar then they've probably been shooting long enough to know what their style is.
3. Use a referral!! If you've seen a friend's senior photos and just loved them ask them who they used! Personal referrals are the best because you know first hand what you'll be getting!
4. Book a consult. Many senior photographers schedule a free consult to meet you and go over their senior experience with you. This is where you'll find out how they work and are able to ask questions that you want answered. Be aware of photographers who are quick to take your session fees without ever meeting with you in some form, they just may not be legit.
5. Know your budget and find a photographer that fits it. There is a photographer out there that fits every budget, from a few hundred to thousands. Each will serve you differently. It's all up to what you want, someone just to take a few photos or someone who is going to cater to you 100% from start to finish. Don't let price be your main factor, but know what you can afford.
Good Luck in your Senior Photographer search...there's a lot of great ones out there! :)
